Frequently Asked Questions

Here's a few questions and answers about my work.

  1. Do you do commissions?
  2. Which apps and equipment do you use for your digital paintings?
  3. How many layers do you use?

Do you do commissions?

Yes, I'm usually open for commissions.

If you're interested, let's talk via eMail, Discord or private message on one of my socials!

Which apps and equipment do you use for your digital paintings?

I almost exclusively use Procreate on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil. I love how simple and intuitive the UI is and how responsive and accurate the Apple Pencil works.

On the rare occassions I paint on a PC, I prefer Sketchbook Pro.

I sometimes use Affinity Designer (on Desktop) to prepare my references if Procreate isn't enough. I have the iPad app as well, but I feel the UI is too clunky.

For viewing my reference images, I use VizRef on my iPad and PureRef on Desktop.

How many layers do you use?

I get this question quite often when I post my art on Reddit. In almost all cases, the answer is one or two.

This answer seems to surprise a lot of artists. In my experience, most digital painters use tons of different layers for their artworks.

I prefer working on as few layers as possible. My workflow is rather reminiscent of traditional painting. You will find me using just one layer for most of the painting. Sometimes I will use a separate background layer in the beginning, but most of the work is done on my one main layer.

Not only is this way simpler to work with (I don't have to think about which layers to use), it also allows me to use all kinds of different edges and blend together all parts of an image in a natural way.

If you want to see me paint some of my portraits, check out my YouTube channel. It has some screen-recorded Procreate footage, not just the timelapse videos exported by Procreate.
